3) Pay-Per-Twitter Message — If there was a username called “NYCtechJobs” — any person looking for a tech job in NYC could be a friend of this list, and be notified instantly of any new NYC tech jobs. Where would those jobs come from? Initially possibly just from Craigs List, Monster, Hot Jobs, etc … but then say you have 2,000 users that are the friends of “NYCtechJobs”, that means you have 2,000 prospective tech employees in the NYC area. A company would love to get their latest tech job out to those prospects, so they can find a hire — thus, they go to a web page you have setup, and they are able to create a message up to 140 characters (likely include a URL to full job details) with some details on the job. You can charge the employer for posting this.
Ditto with a list (er, username) like “NYCfurniture”. People could pay to broadcast their message to all of the friends of “NYCfurniture”.
4) Charge for access to your Twitter messages — Your username can be private and only your friends can receive/view your twitters. Thus, if you had valuable/timely information — you could have a subscription-based service where you charge $X for people to be your friend, and then they would have access to your twitters. Thus, a celebrity could charge for this — or a newspaper might do this to give you access to the news first — or some blogger that finds online shopping deals could send them to you … basically, if the user wanted to be “in the know” for whatever offering, they’d pay $X for access (per week or month). Note: You’d have to verify their subscriptions — and if they haven’t paid for the month, you’d remove them as a friend from your Twitter account.
5) Commissions on user purchases — Setup a service that allows users to buy products through this. User would need to setup an account with you with their credit card (or PayPal info, or a deposit into this proposed payment service) stored. I imagine a user could be browsing Wired magazine and be able to quickly purchase a subscription for $10 by ripping out their cell phone, Twittering a code like “d buy wired”, with a confirmation coming back to the user and them approving the confirmation possibly using a password, then the transaction occurring.
The biggest question on everyone’s minds is what Evan Williams is thinking. They’re opening up their back-end to allow the development of applications on the Twitter platform (which I think is real smart, because people are going to build useful applications for Twitter users — and everyone will be using Twitter in some capacity more often) … but will Evan plan to charge these companies that are building apps? Will Evan not want these apps monetizing themselves? How is Evan planning to monetize Twitter — or will he sell and leave that to a Yahoo/Microsoft/News Corp to figure out how to extract value out of the massive userbase (like his sale of Blogger to Google)? I don’t think Evan knows the answers quite yet — he’s just focused on building a great application for users.

Twitter To Make Money In 2010 With ‘Non-Traditional’ Ads

TEL AVIV (Reuters) - Biz Stone says next year is when Twitter will start making money, and “non-traditional” advertising is how.

The Twitter co-founder, speaking to reporters in Tel Aviv Tuesday, said his company will “start making money” in 2010 and will unveil its plan early next year on how it will produce revenue through advertising. He declined to give details but said advertising will be “non-traditional.”

Still, Stone stressed the company mantra was that it was in no hurry to come up with a business plan, and needn’t be.

“There are no dates when we need to break even. We have plenty of money in the bank,” he said.

In September, Twitter received a new round of funding from investors including mutual fund giant T. Rowe Price and private equity firm Insight Venture Partners, which analysts said set the stage for an eventual initial public offering or sale.

According to a person familiar with the matter, the new funds totaled $100 million, theoretically valuing the company at $1 billion. Stone on Monday said Twitter may eventually go to the stock market for funding if necessary.

Stone also said Twitter also wanted to make more acquisitions as it continues to grow in popularity. “That is something we are definitely interested in,” Stone said. “We made an acquisition last year that turned out to be an outstandingly good decision.” Twitter bought search engine Summize in 2008.

He said there was nothing specific on the horizon. “As our attention is grabbed by some of these developers, we will take a hard look at them,” Stone said.

Stone said Twitter was looking to “partner with as many websites” as possible and that Twitter would keep its platform open for developers.

Stone noted that for now, Twitter will be in English with a next wave into French, German, Italian and Spanish.

“If that works out well, you will see more languages,” he said.

Twitter is one of the world’s fastest-growing social internet companies. Worldwide visitors to its site hit 44.5 million in June, up 15-fold from a year earlier, according to tracker comScore.

Twitter last month forged deals with Microsoft and Google to allow access for its real-time content. It also linked up with professional social network site LinkedIn earlier in November.

101 Ways to Make Mone Online

Disclaimers
There's no catch and I'm not trying to sell you an ebook. Or
anything (read about conmen who do). I'm not even signing you
up for a newsletter. This list was put together more as a laugh. It
may change your life. Or it may annoy you enormously because
of its er, brevity. I hope it does both.
Some ideas here are nice and have halos, others smell of dog
urine ... but all these methods allegedly generate lotso dosho, and
every single one is legal at least somewhere. There's overlap in
everything so some ideas may be repeated (and some may not
be covered at all) but I'm still maintaining there are 101 ways to
make money online, partly because it makes a good headline.
No, solely because it makes a good headline. It sucked YOU in,
didn't it?

No, you won't get anything for nothing but there are a lot of
things you can get for nearly nothing. Like getting to pick holes in
my list. Go ahead. Pick holes and then link back here to show
people how stupid I am.
I've put together a lot of these ideas from thousands of hours
discussing businesses for sale with their owners. They've shared
with me how their businesses operate, how they make money
online, how they built their businesses up etc. They've given me
access to their traffic stats, their earnings and accounts and tax
figures. Many even gave me access to their Adsense or other
"main earner" accounts. Some of those businesses were so
irresistible that I bought them. And sold them. And bought others.
It's a game. I love it.
Most of these business ideas can be run from anywhere in the
world, even the United States, Australia and other non-English
speaking countries. For consistency sake all figures are quoted in
US dollars.
Each method is summarised in a single small para so appreciate
it's not the complete unabridged version. And, no, I haven't tried
each one so out of the 101 business models to make money
online 102 may be completely dud. But, I do intend expanding - in
due course - on some of the money-making ideas that worked
for me.
More disclaimers will come when people sue me (suing can make
you money, see #66)
Finding business ideas:
1. Spend all day browsing Site For Sale forums (like the list we
have here) for the myriad ways people earn money online. People
looking to sell their sites actually tell you how they make money!
Pick one that suits you. Research it a bit, and away and start your
own business. Or use a search engine to find ways to make
money online. It seems to be so easy that it's almost impossible
to find someone who doesn't know how
to do it. (But why stop at one search
engine (SE)? Most people get to less than
1% of the top qualify info they're seeking
because they use just one SE like Google,
don't have the vaguest of ideas of the
advanced search features available, and
don't know the benefits to be had using
specialised SEs, local SEs etc. )
2. Bundle the two above to tell other
people how to make money online. They
always want to know. It doesn't matter if
you don't know yourself, you can still
charge them for it. I obviously don't have
a clue as I'm giving it all away. You can
now ignore everything else I say. But don't go spending money
on internet cons promising to make you a millionaire and here's
how to spot them.
3. Be more inventive with your search. Look for small business
franchise newsletters. Or for home jobs in your particular niche or
hobby. (And check point #2 above for those specialised SEs). You
can also go through the appropriate DMOZ categories (examples: 1
2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12)
But using "search" is just the start of the game. There are
simply so, so many ways. We hope you hang around to
find out.
4. Like the guy you can pay to stick a message in a bottle for you
and throw it into the sea. He's made tens of thousands of dollars
already. And there are several others like him in all parts of the
world. Do you live near a sea or river? Or join the cleanup of
those bottles and get your council to contribute.
Domains
5. The dot com gold rush made many millionaires but there's still
plenty of money in domain real estate and still some good catches
available. A good dot com may be difficult to find now. But there
are a lot of gTLDs and ccTLDs from the .info to .eu to .tv to .co.in
and they all present opportunities being discussed in several good
forums. Put your thinking hat on, buy a famous word domain for
a few dollars and put it up on the domain selling sites.
6. Lost your thinking hat? Hang out at SEDO. DNForurms,
Afternics and other places where domains are bought and sold.
Provided you learn enough about the market to recognise
bargains you could make a living from just buying existing
domains and reselling them.
7. If you're smart you'll run dictionary checks against available
domain names and auto-check them against search volumes
(using OST, Wordtracker etc.) for that term and Pay Per Click
(PPC) rates in the major ad networks (example) to work out which
ones are likely to be more profitable (how to make money with
PPC). If you can pick up the domain for a profitable term that's
searched for often you can use a domain parking program. Or
post a little bit of relevant content and get a link or two ... and the
search engines will start sending you traffic. If the phrase people
are typing in coincides exactly with your domain name it gives
you a great head start with SEs.
8. If you're smart AND a linguist you'd be doing that in multiple
languages. And not paying for any domain till you've tried it free
for five days to see if it does indeed get any type-in traffic (and
how well that traffic converts). After you've tried it for five days
and dropped it there's nothing to stop you immediately picking it
up again for another five day trial. Strange, but true. It's not kiting,
it's legal.
9. Misspellings. Massive opportunities still exist in the misspelling/
typo market. People trying to get elsewhere land on your site
instead ... and you sell them stuff (or use the domain parking
idea). Some even tempt fate by making PPC opportunties out of
typosquatting on trademarks. Finding typos has never been
easier. There are many tools that will find misspellings for you.
How easy can it get?
10. Domain parking and type-in traffic: People sometimes guess at
URLs. If they want a plumber they may try
plumber.com though they've never used
that site themselves. Find terms that people
may be typing in (I will provide a detailed
guide to this when I get a chance), buy the
domain and populate it with ads. There are
several ad programs to monetise your
parked domains. Or combine this with the
previous idea to buy plummer.com or
similar typo domains to make money
online.
11. Drop catches. People sometimes forget
to renew their domains and these expire.
Picking them up will give you some
remnant traffic from sites that link to this
domain/people who've bookmarked it etc.
In some cases the traffic can be pretty high.
Provided you're fast enough to replace the
copyrighted content that was there with
something else you can make quite a
profitable business from doing nothing else
but this.
12. A variation on the above. Sell the domain
back to the previous owners. Note that you
may want to tread carefully and get familiar with the rules for that
TLD before you start sending off ransom notes. For example, with
ICANN (domains that end in .com, for example) the moment you
send the previous owners an email saying you've got their
domain and you'll give it back for $10K... you've lost. It can't look
like a ransom demand. Be reasonable and read the small print of
the UDRP. No UDRP required if you're sitting hostage on
myspace.com/theircompanyname or the equivalent at blogger,
twitter or other big destination. LOL, watch them kick themselves
and sack their web advisors who told them about taking the "dot
info" but omitted to mention the importance of protecting the
brand by owning the associated myspace directory (and others)!
And it costs you nothing!

corporate cubicle and join the
ranks of web workers? But you
have a mortgage, maybe a
dependent or two, and a taste
for Venti Mochas from
Starbucks? You can make
money in the new economy,
though it might not be as easy or cushy as keeping your old
economy job.
I’m not talking about advertising or affiliate marketing or selling
your junk on eBay. Those are so last millennium! I’m talking about
the new new economy.
1. Offer your professional expertise in an online
marketplace.These days, you can do more than just sell your
old books via Amazon and your old Coach handbags via eBay—
now you can sell your professional capabilities in a marketplace.
No longer are you limited to looking for a permanent or contract
job on Web 1.0 style job sites like Monster or CareerBuilder. The
new breed of freelancing and project-oriented sites let companies
needing help describe their projects. Then freelancers and small
businesses offer bids or ideas or proposals from which those
buyers can choose.

Elance covers everything from programming and writing to
consulting and design, while RentACoder focuses on software,
natch. If you’re a graphic designer, check out options like Design
Outpost or LogoWorks–you don’t have to find the customers,
they’ll come to you. Wannabe industry analysts might sign up for
TechDirt’s Insight Community, a marketplace for ideas about
technology marketing.
2. Sell photos on stock photography sites. If people regularly
oooo and aaaaah over your Flickr pics, maybe you’re destined for
photographic greatness or maybe just for a few extra dollars. It’s
easier than ever to get your photos out in front of the public,
which of course means a tremendous amount of competition, but
also means it might be an convenient way for you to build up a
secondary income stream. Where can you upload and market
your photos? Try Fotolia, Dreamstime, Shutterstock, and Big
Stock Photo.
3. Blog for pay. Despite the explosion of blogs, it’s hard to find
good writers who can turn around a solidly-written post on an
interesting topic quickly. GigaOM is always looking for bloggers
with great content ideas and solid writing skills. How do you get
noticed? Comment and link to blogging network sites. Write blog
posts that are polished and not overly personal (although showing
some personality is a plus).
4. Or start your own blog network. If you like the business
side of things–selling advertising, hiring and managing employees,
attracting investors–and have the stomach to go up against the
likes of Weblogs, Inc., GigaOmniMedia, b5media, maybe you
should make an entire business out of blogs. Don’t make the
mistake of thinking you’ll get a lot of time to write yourself though.
5. Provide service and support for open source software.
Just because the software is free doesn’t mean you can’t make
money on it–just ask Red Hat, a well-known distributor of Linux
that sports a market cap of more than four billion dollars. As a
solo web worker, you might not want to jump in and compete
with big companies offering Linux support, but how about
offering support for web content management systems like
WordPress or Drupal? After getting comfortable with your own
installation, you can pretty easily jump into helping other people
set them up and configure them.
6. Online life coaching. Who has time to go meet a personal
coach at an office? And don’t the new generation of web workers
need to be met by their coaches in the same way that they work:
via email, IM, and VoIP? You could, of course, go through some
life coaching certification program, but on the web, reputation is
more important than credentials. I bet Tony Robbins isn’t certified
as a life coach–and no one can argue with his success. For an

7. Virtually assist other web workers. Freelancers and small
businesses desperately need help running their businesses, but
they’re not about to hire a secretary to come sit in the family
room and answer phone calls. As a virtual assistant, you might
do anything from making travel reservations to handling expense
reimbursements to paying bills to arranging for a dog sitter. And
you do it all from your own home office, interacting with your
clients online and by phone. You can make $20 and up an hour
doing this sort of work, depending on your expertise.
8. Build services atop Amazon Web Services. Elastic
computing on AWS is so cool… and so incredibly primitive right
now. Did you know that you can’t even count on your virtual
hard drive on EC2 to store your data permanently? That’s why
people are making money right now by offering services on top
of AWS. Make it easier for people to use Amazon’s scalability web
infrastructure like Enomaly has with elasticlive, a scalable web
hosting platform built on AWS.
9. Write reviews for pay or perks. If you blog for any length
of time on a particular topic–parenting, mobile phones, or PCs, for
example–you will likely be approached to do book or product
reviews. You can get free stuff this way, but are you selling your
soul? Is there any such thing as a free laptop? These are decisions
you’ll have to make for yourself, because no one agrees upon
what ethical rules apply to bloggers. Even less do people agree on
services like PayPerPost that pay you to write reviews on your
blog. Check out disclosure rules closely and see whether such a
gig would meet your own personal standards or not.
10. Become a virtual gold farmer. A half million Chinese now
earn income by acquiring and selling World of Warcraft gold to
gamers in other countries. If you’re not a young person living in
China, this probably isn’t a viable option for you. But what’s
intriguing about it is the opportunity to make real money working
in a virtual economy. People are making real-world money in
Second Life too.

Each of the four factors range from 0 to 10, where 10 is the best

Simple Search Engine Optimization Tips for Blogs

Follow these simple rules for search engine optimization and your
blog will rank much higher in Search Engines.
1. Use your primary keyword in your blog domain
The first thing to do is to ensure that your blogs URL contains the
primary keyword you want to optimize for. Using the targeted
keyword in subdomains also helps.
For example, if you want to start a HTML tutorial site then the
primary keyword you want your URL to contain is html. So
choose a URL like www.htmlhelp.com.
You can also use the keyword in subdomains like www.web-
design.com/htmlhelp

2. Use your primary keyphrase in the title of your posts
If your primary key phrase is html help make sure that the word
html and help appear in your blog headers such as H1 and H2 tags
as well as the title of each of your posts.
3. Use your secondary keywords in the body of your post
If you want to get listed for secondary keywords use them
infrequently in the body of your post. The theory is that the more
times a keyword appears within a Webpage, the more relevant
the page is likely to be for someone searching those keywords.
But do not overdo this by repeating the same keywords over and
over again. Google bots can find out if a keyword is too frequent
on a page and might just remove your site from their index.
4. Use your keywords in the anchor text of links
Use your primary and secondary keywords in the anchor text of
links when linking to other blog posts or to other pages of your
blog. Keyword in links have more importance than simple text.
5. Make sure search engines can spider your blog easily
Make sure your navigation bar is present on all pages of your
blog. Your previous posts or atleast the popular ones should be
linked to all pages so they get spidered easily.
6. Get backlinks from other blogs
You need as many links as possible to link back to your posts or
blog because it will help you build pagerank and get your blog to
rank higher in search engines. The more links you have the higher
your blog is ranked in Technorati helping your blog to be found
easily.
So how do you get backlinks?
1. The first thing to do to get high-quality links is to submit your blog
and RSS feed to blog search engines and directories.

2. Link exchanging with other similarly-themed blogs will help you to

Top Ten Ways to Improve Your Search Result in Google

I do a lot of marketing research and search engine optimization
work for websites, and my clients always ask me the same
question when we start: “How do I make my website the #1
result in a Google search?” After I respond with the obligatory,
“Pay me to put it there,” I tell them the truth that you can’t actually
pay anyone to put you in the first result on Google, and there is
no simple way to get there overnight. I invariably have the same
lengthy discussion with them explaining how Google ranks its
search results, after which they usually ask me, “So do you
know anyone else I can pay to get the #1 result?”

While you can’t simply pay someone to guarantee you the
top search result on Google, and you can’t even pay Google, with
some time and effort you or an SEO consultant can optimize your
website so that you might be able to rise up through the ranks.
I’ve compiled a list of the top 10 techniques I use to assist clients in
obtaining better search rankings in Google (and oh yeah, those
other search engines too).
Identify keywords that visitors will find interesting
One of the most important aspects of any search engine
marketing campaign is identifying keywords for content. The
problem is, most webmasters identify keywords as those terms
which they find interesting, not ones which people will actually
search on. For example, let’s say you started a new company
called “MyCo” and created a website to sell your new product, “the
MyCo MyWidget,” which is the latest and greatest can opener on
the market. You may think the terms “MyCo” and “MyWidget” are
great keywords to use, but you’re wrong. No one is going to visit
Google and enter a search on “Myco MyWidgets,” because no one
knows what they are yet (for more info about promoting a new
website or company, read the Purpose of Press Releases in
Search Engine Marketing). Instead, choose keywords which
describe your product in generic terms which a potential
customer may actually search on, such as “can opener” or “open
cans.”
If you’d like to do some research to find out what terms are
popular and who’s searching for what, check out Google Trends
Labs. Just enter a search keyword and Google will let you know
the volume of traffic they get searching for it. The Google
AdWords tool is another good place to find keyword search
volume. Also read how to use Google to find the best keywords
for your website.
Look at your website the way Google does
A good website designer already knows how to code their
website’s HTML so that it will present the same no matter what
browser your visitors are using (Internet Explorer 6 or 7, Mozilla,
Mac or Windows). But search engines like Google don’t care what
your website looks like, they care that they can easily sift through
your code and images to find the actual searchable text in the
content on your website. They also can’t index graphic images or
Flash elements, so keep that in mind when designing your
website. If you’re home page is just one big Flash graphic, you’re
not helping your search results at all.
Try using a Search Engine Simulator in order to strip all the code
and graphics from your web page and just view the actual text.
Make sure the resulting text still has the keywords you’re looking
for in it.
Code for SEO
In order to code for search engine optimization, you have to
understand those parts of your code that search engines are
going to consider the most important.
Title tags need to be unique to each page, and about 60 characters
long (Google apparently accepts up to 63 characters, other search
engines may accept a bit more). A good rule of thumb is 10
words or less. You should use your company name in your title
tag, but make sure you also use accurate, popular keywords
which describe your company. Any keywords in your title tag
should also appear in your page content, as the more
relevant to the content the greater weight Google will give it.
The Meta Description tag is the next most important tag. Google
may take this tag as verbatim when your website appears in
search results, so it is essential that it be a good description of the
page’s content, and of course that it uses keywords which you
want to target. Again, the description should contain keywords
which also appear in the actual page content. According to the
Official Google Webmaster Central blog, descriptions should be
clearly informative, not duplicated, and not repetitive. This means
use a unique description for each page on your site, and don’t
repeat keywords within the description.
For the most part you don’t have worry too much about the Meta
Keywords tag; Google doesn’t bother with it. Semantic markup
heading tags, such as H1, H2, and H3, often carry greater weight,
so use your best keywords in them. Image ALT and especially
TITLE tags should accurately describe the images they are applied
to for accessibility purposes, but it doesn’t hurt to use keywords

Search Engine Friendly URLs
Your web page file and/or directory names are another great place
to use keywords. Google applies weight in rankings when your
URL matches the search term. It would be best if your domain
name matched the search result, but even if it doesn’t you can still
create a URL structure which can increase your result rank. A url
which looks like “www.myco.com/mywidget.html” is not
as good as “www.opencans.com/my-widget-can-
opener.html”. If you use a Content Management System (CMS)
or other website software which creates dynamic URLs which
look like this, “www.myco.com/index.aspx?page=1234″ then
you’re in trouble. Google and most search engines don’t like
dynamic page URLS at all (pretty much any URL with a question
mark in it). In this case you’re going to want to use some kind of
URL re-writing technique to create what we call search engine
friendly URLs. A good example of this is the forum software
which my company publishes, ITCN ASP.NET Discussion Forum
Software, which automatically converts all URLs into search
engine friendly alternatives.
Content writing
People have been saying it for a long time, and it still rings true:
Content is King. It doesn’t matter how many search engine
optimization techniques you apply, if you have lousy content, or
content which has been duplicated from another website, the
search engines just aren’t going to care about you. Make sure
your content is something people are going to want to find if they
do a search for it, and then re-write it to make sure it includes
keywords for which people are actually searching.
Also make sure you have plenty of it; no one will want to link to or
even visit your site if there’s nothing there for them except what
you’re selling. Become an authority on a subject related to your
market by writing or blogging about it profusely. Try writing
product reviews, giving out awards, or even just writing some
personal notes. If you position yourself as an authority in your
field, people will want to read about what you’re doing, and by
extension, what you’re selling or promoting.
Keyword Proximity and Density
Now that you’ve identified some good keywords, used them in
your content, and also repeated them in your title and meta
description, get ready to re-write again. Chances are you didn’t
think about keyword proximity or density. Both are important to
understand, as one can help you and one can hurt you. Keyword
proximity is the art of ensuring that keywords people are
searching on appear near each other — in close proximity. For
example, if someone is searching for your MyCo MyWidget Can
Opener, you may have found that popular keywords are “metal
can openers” or “plastic can openers”, so you included the term
“Metal and Plastic Can Openers” in your title tag. Looks good to
you, but not necessarily to search engines, since the terms
“metal” and “can openers” and not in close proximity. Better
useage would be “Metal Can Openers and Plastic Can Openers.”
Make sure somewhere in your content you separate the wording
as two different terms so that they will exactly match the popular
keywords. Also read about Long Tail Keyword Marketing and my

But be careful, because if your keyword density increases
too much you can be penalized for keyword stuffing in
search results. If Google finds the term “metal can opener” 20
times on your page and there are only 22 terms, you’ve got over
90% keyword density and your page can be dropped to the
bottom of all search results!
Google doesn’t publish at exactly what threshold good SEO ends
and keyword stuffing begins, but a good rule of thumb is to keep
keyword density between 6% and 10% for a couple important
keywords on your page, and about 3 to 5% for less important
terms.
Don’t be too good
Since Google doesn’t publish the algorthym which explains how
much weight they give each of these techniques in their search
engine results, we can’t say which technique will get you to the
top of the list in all search results. However, I can say that I have
noticed this: If you take a look at the first result on just about any
page of results in Google and run it through a Page Analyzer
(software which checks the relevancy of your title and meta tags,
and keyword proximity and density), you’ll find it doesn’t score
100% for many, or sometimes all, of these techniques. That’s
because it would appear Google doesn’t like anything automated –
if it even thinks your page has been run through a page analyzer
to have a 100% score, they seem to think you’re trying too hard.
It may also be simply because Google doesn’t attach as much
weight to keywords as it does to one-way non-reciprocal
backlinks – sites which you don’t link to, but link to your website.
Get some backlinks!
This is probably the best way to increase your visibility
within Google. The more sites which link to yours, and the
better those sites are, the more Google will trust your site as a
good candidate for high search result ranking. Get as many as
you can – 300 is a good beginning target to shoot for, but not just
any old backlinks. These should be links from established websites
which are actually related to yours by subject or field. And don’t
pay for backlinks – according to the Official Google Webmaster
Central blog, sites may be penalized if Google finds out you paid
for links (or maybe not?).
Also make sure your links are “dofollow” links, and that they don’t
have the rel=”nofollow” attribute on them.
But if you can’t buy them, and you need them right now, how are
you going to get them? Well, that is where the art of linkbaiting
comes in. It’s going to take time, lots of time, and lots of
perseverance. But you have to actually offer content (or
something free) to which visitors will actually want to link. Then
you have to spend time each day personally contacting other
website or blog owners in your field about your content and/or
freebie, and hope they link to you.
Sounds difficult and time-consuming? It is; unless, of course, you
can generate a viral marketing strategy. If you offer something of
great interest (it may be a funny YouTube video, something
weird, or just a great free offer), you’ll find it will take off on the
web with a life of it’s own. Think of it this way; if you handed a
$20 bill to everyone who knocked on your front door, it wouldn’t
be too long before you had a lawnful of people waiting to knock
on your door. You’ve just got to figure out the content equivalent
of that $20 bill for your website and email it around; word will
spread quickly.
Keep links to a minimum
Google also takes a look at how your site is linking to others. If
you have more than 100 links to other websites on a page, there’s
a good chance Google will remove that page from their results, or
move you to a zero or non-existent PageRank. This is because of
link farms – websites whose sole purpose is to create links to
other web pages to increase their search results. If you’ve got that
many links on one page, Google assumes they are either not all
relevant to your content, or possibly paid links, neither of which
are good for your results. If you need that many links, consider
using the rel=”nofollow” attribute on them or excluding link pages
in your robots.txt file.
But don’t let that discourage you from linking to other websites;
just don’t put them all on one page. In a good-sized page of
content, there shouldn’t be more than a dozen or so links to
external websites. Link to other websites related to yours, and
webmasters who check their logs to see who is referring visitors
to their site may notice your website and link back to you.
Pay attention to PageRank
PageRank is a number, from 0 to 10, which Google assigns to a
web page to describe it’s importance, or more accurately, it’s
value. So you would think the higher the PageRank of your
web page, the higher your rankings in search results, but
you’d be wrong. It doesn’t hurt to have a higher PageRank, but
even a website which a PageRank of 3 can come up before a
PageRank of 5 if Google feels its content matches the search
better. But if you only have a PageRank of 0 or 1, you’re probably
not going to end up on the first page of results for any
competitive terms.
The quickest way to increase your PageRank is to get some
backlinks, but don’t get them too fast. If Google finds 1,000
random backlinks to your site overnight they may think you’re
buying them. And don’t expect your PageRank to be increased
overnight, they only tend to update PageRanks every 3 months at
Google.

How often do
you find what you are
looking for?

Sometimes it’s a grand-
slam other times a total
miss.
It’s so frustrating when you
want answers to
something and you can’t
find it. You may scan page
after page of Google or
Yahoo only to have to re-
query again to see if you
strike gold.
Usually this means that
you’ll have to do a long tail
keyword search, like “How do I get a good car insurance rate if I
have a ticket?”
This is where Web 2.0 helps tremendously - not only for answers
to questions but also your efforts on Internet marketing.
Mining niche gold
Assuming you’ve already done your competitive
intelligence, you are ready to begin marketing your
product or offer.
Whatever your niche product or service is, how do
you find traffic that is looking for exactly what you
have to sell right now? And how do you get to
know what your market is looking for?
I’m going to talk about two places on the net where
you can find targeted and real-time traffic. There
are others too, but I’ll keep it simple.
Using Google for targeted traffic
If your niche is selling car insurance, go to Google
and type in search queries like “How do I get a
good car insurance rate if I have a ticket?” We’ll use this as an
example.
Above the sponsored links, you’ll see “More Options.” Click that
and then on the next screen, choose “forums” on the left.
Whoa, look at what you have: A lot of people posting questions
and answers about your query and recently too.
You can begin going through the forums to get a good idea of
what your prospects are looking for by their postings.
You marketing efforts become so much more specific instead of
shooting in the dark and guessing what people want.
A specific long tail keyword gives you more relevant information
rather than just typing in “car insurance.” There could be too
many unrelated topics with that keyword phrase. The goal is to
target, target, target.
Using Twitter for real-time traffic
Twitter has been recognized as the first site for real-time search.
So how does a marketer use Twitter to the fullest of its
capabilities? By using Twitter Search.
Go to http://search.twitter.com and type in the word “best” with
your search query.
Using the word “best” is an excellent way to find people looking
for things.
Get creative and find other words too that may also target your
audience.
For example, I typed in “best iPod apps?”
As I scrolled down I saw a guy that posted: “Anybody have
suggestions for best iPod touch apps?”
If you sell apps for iPods, do you suppose you could send him a
link to your recommendations?
He’d really appreciate it and there’s a high chance he’ll buy. Now
that’s real-time traffic.
You market will love that someone has the solution to their
question or problem quickly.
Knowing the needs of your market means you are serving your
customers to the best of your ability. Good service does go a long
way.

Many of the pages on this site display text ads from Google's AdWords program. To display these ads, a site must join Google's AdSense program. Joining is free, but not all sites are eligible to join. Once you're accepted, however, it's very simple to place the ads on your pages and to start generating revenue for your site.
AdSense will serve ads that are generally very relevant to the content of a particular page. Here are some tips based on my experiences so far with the AdSense program.

Tip #1: Don't put ads on empty pages.

When I reworked my site, I built a skeleton set of pages that had no content, just titles and some meta tags. I displayed ads on those pages, however. Although all you see are public service ads at first, the very act of displaying ads on a page causes the AdSense web crawler to quickly fetch that page for analysis. A page with good content will thus begin showing relevant paying ads fairly quickly.

If you don't have any content, then, Google will have to guess as what your page is about. It may guess wrong, and so the ads that it displays may not be relevant. You'll have to wait until Google re-crawls the site for the ads to correct themselves. Here is what Google had to say when I asked them about how often the AdSense crawler updates a site:

Thank you for taking the time to update your site. New ads will start appearing on your site the next time our crawler re-indexes your site. Unfortunately at this time, we are unable to control how often our crawlers index the content on your site.

Crawling is done automatically by our bots. When new pages are added to your website or introduced to the AdSense program, our crawlers will usually get to them within 30 minutes. If you make changes to a page, however, it may take up to 2 or 3 weeks before the changes are reflected in our index. Until we are able to crawl your web pages, you may notice public service ads, for which you will not receive any earnings.

It's better to flesh out the page before you start displaying ads on it.

Tip #2: Don't be afraid to ask questions

If you're wondering about something, don't be afraid to ask Google. So far, they've always responded to my questions within a working day. There are two email addresses to use, depending on the type of question:

Tip #3: Avoid non-English characters on English pages

This one is a bug, to be honest. My surname is French, and I prefer to write it out correctly with the accent grave on the first "e". Every page on my site would then include at least two accented letters, because my name shows up twice in the footer. On some pages my name shows up two or three more times.

Normally, this wouldn't be an issue. But on some pages the presence of the accented characters is enough to cause AdSense to display non-relevant ads in French. This happens whether the browser indicates a preference for French or not. When I reported this to Google, this is the answer they gave me:

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

We are currently working as quickly as we can to address this problem. As soon as we have more information for you, we will email you again.

Until this is resolved, I've decided to strip out all accents except on the pages that are actually in French.

Tip #4: Check your keyword density

Although Google doesn't release exact details as to how they determine the ads to serve on a given page, they do tell us that it's the text content of the page that matters, not the meta tags. Before serving ads on a page, then, you might want to check its keyword density. A good, free tool for doing this is found here:

2. A content page. A content page is more like your typical full blown website. A content page is generally less productive at converting leads, but very useful for many reasons none the less. In particular when it comes to generating a certain type of traffic which I will be talking about later on. Not only that but you can load your content page with all sorts of ways to capture people’s emails and generate opt ins. Once you have the traffic…the possibilities are endless.

In order to do internet network marketing successful I suggest you personally create both of these different types of websites. Your priority however, is absolutely on a squeeze page.

If you just had a squeeze page, you could still get by A LOT better, but a full blown content website comes in very handy on the back end of your campaign. And that image is still itched out into the minds of many but to be honest these are just images. The reality is very different.

The majority of netpreneur are still young but they are not some kind of eccentric genius. Anyone can be a netprenuer these days. That is the result of easy access to internet and the desire of people to take some risk and start their own online business venture. Netpreneurs are like any other entrepreneurs. The only difference is that netpreneur as the name suggests is a special class of entrepreneur who has some special technical skills that could be used to earn money online. What’s a Netpreneur? You know..?

I wanna be a netpreneur.

What’s a ‘netpreneur’, I hear you ask? A netpreneur is an ’internet entrepreneur’.

When we think of internet entrepenuers, we think of the insanely-rich people that created Amazon, Google, Facebook, YouTube, etc. Whilst it would be great to build an internationally-renowned website like these, it’s clearly out of reach for most of us.

This website deals with ‘netpreneurs’ who operate on a far less grandiose scale. For the purpose of this website, a ‘netpreneur’ is someone who is capable of financially sustaining his/her family and desired lifestyle via the World Wide Web.

There is an important distinction to make up front - my understanding of ’netpreneurs’ is that they are not necessarily rich people - in terms of dollars. I think that true ‘netpreneurs’ strive to control and protect a commodity that is much more important and valuable in this day and age than money - their time.

So, why do I want to be a ‘netpreneur’? Well, it’s quite simple. I don’t want to spend 8-12 hours slaving at work each day. I don’t want to get that sinking feeling in my stomach every Sunday evening in the knowledge that a full week of work awaits. I don’t want to dress up in a suit and tie each morning. I don’t want to endure traffic snarls or catch public transport on my way to and from work. I don’t want to compromise my lifestyle and family life for some faceless corporate job.

I want to be able to work where I want, when I want to, without being told what to do. I don’t want to make somebody else rich. Instead, I want to use my brains, creativity and innovativeness to ‘build something’ for myself. I want destiny to rest solely in my own hands and no-one else’s. And perhaps most importantly, I want to spend quality time with my family and my dog.

It sounds fantastic, but is it possible to spurn traditional employment and make a living on the web? Or is it a pipe dream? To tell you the truth, I’m not entirely sure whether it is possible or not - but I am on a journey of discovery to see if it can work out!

Certainly, the media would have us believe that there is an abundance of people out there making a fortune from the internet. Just watch Today Tonight or A Current Affair and you’ll likely come across a story or two about ordinary, everyday housewives who have made a million on ebay selling nicknacks from their third bedroom. Apparently, these success stories are a dime a dozen.

But from my experience thus far, it’s not just a matter of setting up shop and counting the money. There’s a lot of work involved….

I have learnt a lot thus far, and I suspect that my learning is only just the tip of the iceberg - there is much more learning to come, particularly as technology seems to change the landscape of this industry on a daily basis….

This website is designed to act as my ‘artificial intelligence’ - my knowledge resource. This website represents a place for me to record my tips and tricks and useful links for my own use and for others to use as well. Rather than writing reams of information, I have chosen to provide information in an abbreviated format, so that the information is actionable and can be read quickly (the netpreneur simply doesn’t have the time to read long articles).
